Short Speech on Jawaharlal Nehru

Good morning and a Warm Welcome to all the parents and Teachers, who have gathered here on this Wonderful Day! Today I am going to give a small speech on Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who is considered as an architect of Modern India.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who is also fondly known as Cha-Cha Ji or Uncle Nehru, was India’s first ever Prime Minister, after India received Independence, in the year 1947. Under his leadership, India reformed in many fields, including agriculture, Industries and Education. Jawaharlal Nehru firmly believed in the importance of the primary education for children.

Jawaharlal Nehru, was born on November 14, 1889, to Motilal Nehru and Swaruprani Thussu, in Allahabad. As a child, Nehru grew up in luxurious surroundings and he had private tutors in his home. After completing his primary education at home, he was sent to England for his higher studies. He joined Trinity College, Cambridge, after completing his higher education. In the year 1910, he became a barrister in England. During this time, he developed an interest in Indian Politics.

He came back to India and started practicing in Allahabad High Court. However, his interest in politics increased day by day and he gave up his practice to join politics. He joined the Indian National Congress and he was highly influenced by Mahatma Gandhi. He started taking part in many freedom movements, including Quit India Movement. Due to that, he was sent to jail many times, by the British Government. He became a prominent leader in Indian Politics within few years.

During the partition of India, he and his old friend, Jinnah, who was the leader of the Muslim League Party, were trying to make negotiations. However, the negotiations failed leading to the Independence of Indian and Pakistan. After Independence, Nehru was made the first Prime Minister of Free India, by Lord Mountbatten. He has shaped the India, that is now, by reforming at a rapid speed. He served the country as Prime Minister, from 1947 to 1964.

There were many assassination attempts made against Jawaharlal Nehru and as a result of which his security was increased, which was disliked by him. His health began degrading in the year 1962 and he went to Kashmir for taking rest and recovering himself. However, in the year 1964, he breathed his last.
