My city Chandigarh is a Union Territory and is also a city. It is one of the cities in India, which was well planned. It serves as the capital of Haryana and Punjab. The city does not come under any of the two states, and the Union Government governs the city. My city is famous across the world for its architecture and its beauty. Chandigarh is also a part of the greater Chandigarh that includes Chandigarh and Panchkula, in Haryana. The city was planned by Swiis-French architect called – Le Corbusier who has done great projects in his life. the capital complex of Chandigarh was also declared as the World’s Heritage site by Istanbul. My City Chandigarh also has the highest GDP and per capita income. It is also ranked number one in the Human Development index forum.
History:
The city is surrounded by the lake and hence because of that, there are many fossils of the aqua animals that are present in the city. The city was earlier the home of the Harappans and hence began the civilization. The city was developed post-Independence and it was a dream of the then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru. The city was built in the year 1949 by the architect Albert Mayer and his plan did not work out well. Matthew Nowicki came on board as the architect and he died in a plane crash. Then finally Le Corbusier came as the architect of the city and planned the entire Chandigarh city. Chandigarh was named as the most developed and a well-planned city of India. It is also one of the modern cities in India.
Religion and Language
The official language of Chandigarh is English. Though a lot of people speak Punjabi and Hindi as well. The schools have Text books in Hindi, English, and Punjabi. The people of Chandigarh are mostly Hindus. They follow the Sikh religion as well. The city is also a home for many Jains, Christians, Buddhists, and Islam.
Architecture
There are numerous places in Chandigarh, which are worth seeing. The places like Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, Rose Garden, Bird Sanctuary, Leisure Valley are amongst the most beautiful places in Chandigarh and one must visit them whenever they visit Chandigarh. There are many other places as well such as Open Hand Monument, City Center, Government Museum and Art Gallery, Garden of Palms and many other famous gardens. It is a beautiful city.
