Telangana is the newly formed states in India. It was carved out of Andhra Pradesh on June 2nd 2014. The newly formed state comprises of 112,077 square kilometers and constitutes of a population of 35,193,978 as per the latest census in 2011. By the size of its land mass, Telangana is the twelve largest states in the country. The well-known cities in Telangana are Hyderabad, Warangal, Secunderabad and Nizamabad. The state of Telangana has borders with Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh. Hindi, Urdu and telugu are the major languages in the state of Telangana.

History

The state of Telangana has been part of several dynasties since medieval era.  Satavahana dynasty was one of the prominent dynasties that ruled Telangana during 230 BCE to 220 CE. Few other renowned dynasties that ruled the region includes Chalukya, Rashtrakuta and Kakatiya dynasty. Later during the period of Delhi sultanate dominance Hyderabad came under the dominance of Nizams who ruled the region until independence. The Nizams of Hyderabad ruled the region but post British invasion, they lost the right to defense and foreign affairs to British Empire. It remained as a princely state until the independence. Post-independence, the state of Hyderabad was included into Indian union after a military operation.

Geography

The state of Telangana comes under the Deccan plateau and is nurtured by two major rivers in South Godavari and Krishna. Few other rivers that drains the region includes Musi, Manjira and Maner. The state of Telangana generally remains dry throughout the year. During the month of July to September the regions receives annual rainfall of about 755 mm.

Economy

Agriculture is the backbone of economy in the state of Telangana.  Majority of the farmers in the region depends on rainfall for their irrigation. Apart from rice, the other major food crop includes sugar cane, cotton, tobacco and mango. The state also earns its major chunk of revenue from IT exports and is one of the major IT hubs in the country. The state also have huge coal reserves at Singareni Collieries Company which helps in satiating state’s energy needs.

Tourism

Telangana is one of the most beautiful states in the country which is bestowed with natural resources. The state records huge tourist inflow every year. The state is best known for historical monuments, ancient architecture and hill stations. Best known places are Warangal, Golkonda fort, Anantagiri hills, Bhongir Fort, Taj Falaknuma Palace, Charminar and NagarjunaSagar Dam etc.
