My City Agra is one of the most famous cities in India. It is a part of the state Uttar Pradesh and is just 206 kilometers away from the state capital. Agra is a beautiful city and it has many historical elements associated with the city. The Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Fatehpur Sikri, and many other historical places and monuments. Agra is also sometimes called as Akbarabad or the Taj City. It is a metropolitan city and is famous across the world. The city ranks 24th in the country. My city Agra was also mentioned in the epic Mahabharata where it was known as Agrevana, which was derived from a Sanskrit word meaning border of the forest. The city for the first was mentioned in the 1080 AD when it was captured. The city is very beautiful and it is one of the most famous tourist destinations.

History

The History of Agra goes back to the times of Mahabharata. It was then ruled by the Sultans and was ruled by the Sikander Lodi, a Muslim ruler. Agra was then ruled by the Mughals and that was the golden age of the city and it started with the Mughals. It was then known as Akbarabad, and it was the capital of the Mughals. Akbar ruled the city and also made it the eponymous seat and made it amongst the 12 subahs. Being an important city in the Mughal period, Agra went under a lot of construction. Babar, who was the founder of the Mughal Dynasty, made the first Persian garden on the banks of the famous river Yamuna. The garden is famously known as Aram Bagh which in English means Garden of Relaxation. Akbar – Babar’s grandson did a lot of great work in raising the city and he also built a new city outside Agra known as the Fatehpur Sikri and the city was built in stone. It has also served as the capital of the city before Shah Jahan decided to shift it to Delhi. After the independence, Agra became one of the smartest cities.

Culture

The people of Agra follow different cultures and even the festivals. They celebrate Diwali, Eid, Christmas with enthusiasm and joy. Agra is a lovely place and it is the place worth visiting as the city is a symbol of love. The Love that Shah Jahan has shown to Mumtaz. It is one of the seven wonders of the world and it also attracts a lot of tourists.
